SAFE Day and Carlsruhe history sites

First stop was the old Carlsruhe Railway Station
and Station School. This is now a private
residence.
We stood on the platform and looked at the
tracks. North is towards Kyneton and
South back to Woodend.
We learnt about staying safe from Joe the
policeman. He told us funny stories.
At the SES session we learnt why we should
never swim in flood waters. They often
contain dangerous rubbish and one can get
seriously sick or injured.
The SES do so many things for the
local communities.
We talked about safety plans and what to
do in emergencies.
The men from Parks Victoria talked about
camping safely in the bush.
At ESTA we learnt about what happens when we
ring 000 and what we need to be able to say
to the operator.
On our way back from Kyneton we stopped
at the Carlsruhe cemetery to look at the old
gravestones.

Aussie Kids Rock Concert

At the Aussie Rock concert Deano, Rusty
and CJ entertained us by showing us some
different types of music and they put them into
funny acts. Josie got chosen to do a rap,
Beau was the Blues mascot and Lily was the
Country mascot. Then we danced to some rock,
country, heavy metal and blues music.
We all had a wonderful time.

Krystal

Krystal our lovely pre-service teacher
bought us a new rabbit. She
is a dwarf cross lop, seven weeks
old and is white with black spots.
Thank you Krystal she is gorgeous.

Fresh from the garden

The first of our winter vegetables are being
harvested. Look at these fine radishes
about to be enjoyed by Ella, Hanna, Agatha
and Beau.

Fresh and Salty, River Detective Program

Today Nicole came to teach us about Salinity.
First we watched a short DVD called Fresh and
Salty and then she used a diagram to explain the
process very clearly. Nicole put four jars around
the room and we tasted the water, the facial
expressions show which ones were really salty.
Next we tested our water samples using an EC
meter. When our results were listed on the board
we could see that our results are really good.
How lucky we are to have really good water to
drink and use everyday. Thank you Nicole
for a really interesting session.

Around the Annexe at recess

During our breaks students can be found tending
the animals, playing in their cubbies or involved
in an exciting match on the oval. What a great
place our playground is especially in this Autumn
weather.

Books and Guides

Today at Assembly Mrs Flynn introduced
Joanne Duncan while Lucy and Sophie look on.

Joanne proudly gives the girls some books for
our school library. Lucy and Sophie are avid
readers, both have read more than 100 books
each for the Premiers Reading Challenge
and were therefore worthy of receiving
these books on behalf of the school.

These are the books we received. Barb our librarian
will be very pleased to add them to our library.

Lily and Sophie stood up at Assembly and
told us all about Girl Guides. If you would like
to join speak to the girls for more information.
Well done girls.

Thursday Activities

Today our cooks cut up a lot of green tomatoes
and made Green Tomato Chutney.
What a great job they all did.

These students are enjoying sketching with
charcoal on the lawn outside. They are
drawing our beautiful old school.
Great pictures everyone.

On the outdoor tables these students were
hard at work producing some wooden
pencil cases. What a hive of activity and
cooperative adults and students.
