River Detectives

Today Nicole came to talk to us about  our local
waterways and the importance of river health and
water quality. These toys represent some of the
many creatures which may live in and around
our local waterways.

We walked along the road and sat under the
bridge near the Campaspe River. Nicole showed
us how to have "eyes and ears"and how to
collect scientific information.

Faith is testing the Air temperature.

Mitchell is testing the Water temperature.

Ryley is testing the pH of the water.

Rory and Mitch are cleaning the test tubes
before adding an acid to test for Reactive
Phosphorus.

We watched and listened really well.

Nicole is showing us how to check the pH level
against the coloured card.

Henry and Zoe are testing the Turbidity  of
our water sample.

Nicole explained that by collecting this data each
month and adding our results to the Victorian
Waterwatch Data Management System, we will
be assisting with the decisions which are made to
manage our local waterways. We are also learning
about what Scientists do.
